A fairy on the interweb told me that fink install libgettext3-dev might help, so I gave that a try. This seems strange to me because the Makefile is properly including /sw/lib on the library path, that does have libgettext and libgettext.a does binary I needed to modify the Makefile that came with resythesizer, and point it to the correct gimptool (/sw/bin/gimptool-2.0 for me). I also needed to do a fink install gimp2 to pick up gimptool-2.0. That sucked in a lot of stuff, and took quite a while. First though, since that is in the unstable tree, you need to add unstable/main to list of trees in /sw/etc/nfĪfter that, you can run fink install gimp2-dev.

Since I use Fink, an OSX software package manager, I used that to obtain the gimp-dev packages.
So I've decided to try to build the Resynthesizer plugin from source to see if I can use it in either Gimp from fink, Gimp.app, or Gimpshop.įirst, to build the plugin you need to have the gimp2 headers. Gimpshop, a version of Gimp modified to be more like photoshop, is supposed to include Resynthesizer, but the version that I downloaded did not seem to have it. Since I usually run OSX, I like to use Gimp.app, but it does not include the Resynthesizer plugin. Perhaps someone will update the gimpshop package but it looks like the gimpshop project is dead. I don’t see an easy solution other just removing gimpshop or the gimp. The gimp just continued to look for its libraries in /usr/lib and /lib.īut when you install ANY other package using Synpatic Package Manager or “sudo apt-get” in the Terminal, Linux installs the package and ALSO regenerates the library cache (via ldconfig). When you installed gimpshop using the “sudo dpkg” command above, gimpshop was installed but the library cache was never regenerated. TECHNICAL EXPLANATION FOR THE BREAKAGE OF THE GIMP: Personally, I would keep the gimp 2.4 since it is so much better than gimpshop (which is based on the older gimp 2.2). So you really should decide which package you won\’t to keep – gimp or gimpshop.

But the minute you upgrade or install ANY PACKAGE (which does not even have to be related to the gimp or gimpshop), the gimp will no longer work. This is based on GIMP 2.2 this is quite old but if you want some photoshop features you can use this. Since GIMPshop is based on GIMP so it has all the features of GIMP+some extras. Like GIMP which is crossplatform and runs on Windows, Linux, OS X ,Solaris GIMPshop too is crossplatform. Other than this all the features of GIMP are preserved. Now besides all the interface change it adds naming convection similar to photoshop to Gimp. GIMPShop tries to replicate Photoshop's interface as close as possible, hence many tutorials designed for Adobe Photoshop could be followed for GIMPshop !!. Its primary purpose is to make users of Photoshop feel comfortable using GIMP. GIMPshop is a modification of the free/open source graphics program GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), intended to replicate the feel of Adobe Photoshop.
